Monarchy is a rotten institution that actively stunts the civic responsibility and virtue of citizens by preventing a citizen from representing their own country at home and abroad while also protecting a singular family and its members from accountability and as such creating a malaise that shrouds the nation in an apathy not too dissimilar to that which Russians experience under Putin. Our culture is permitted to rot away through the destruction of working class neighbourhoods and through the gentrification of our towns while the monarch parasitises British culture and diminishes the agency of the common man in presenting his own identity. This isn’t just a Welsh issue, the (Northern) Irish, the Scots, and the English are all equally affected by the King stealing our national heritage and pretending that only he can represent it. Wales needs to set a precedent and abolish the monarchy to ensure that the people of Wales are the ONLY sovereign of the country and to guarantee our freedom from the yoke of monarchist knavery. Only by abolishing the monarchy can Wales be a genuinely independent country like Ireland, and not bound to the ‘cultural ties’ of “Mother England” that Australia and the other former Dominions are unfortunately enslaved by.

As well as being an institution that breeds complacency and that disallows common citizens from being the true cultural representatives of their nation, the monarchy in Wales in particular is an institution built off of conquest and oppression. The Prince of Wales as a title is owned by an Englishman in order to purposefully humiliate us and has been since our conquest in the 13th century. We do not need such things in the 21st century and should be freed from the embarrassment of a foreign conqueror’s brood being in charge of our nation and people, even if it is just on paper. The English fifth column will whine and cry about it but they are to be consigned to the dustbin of history like all ‘Subjects of the Crown’.
