The Scottish and Welsh independence movements have an ace in the hole that Irish nationalism does not – ‘British’ being an unequivocal and undeniable geographical term, not a loaded one of allegiance. Thus, it can be ‘reclaimed’, and used to spin arguments for Unionism on their head. “I’m proud to be Scottish/Welsh and British” sorts can have it pointed out to them that this will remain the case beyond the existence of a British State.
I personally abhor the very concept of monarchy and believe it is nothing but an anachronism. That being said, I’m willing to be pragmatic on the issue and take the hit of retaining a Windsor as a ceremonial HOS if it means securing our independence.
Say Yes today and take the pledge to vote "Yes" in a referendum on Welsh independence. Every signature takes us one step nearer to our goal of an independent Wales.
