YesCymru has today submitted a Freedom of Information request to the UK Treasury, seeking a comprehensive record of correspondence between Wales’s First Minister, Baroness Eluned Morgan, and the UK Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, alongside HM Treasury, regarding the Crown Estate in Wales.
Jim Dunckley from YesCymru said:
A 2023 YouGov poll commissioned by YesCymru revealed that an overwhelming 75% of the Welsh population supports full Welsh control over our resources, currently managed by the Crown Estate. Yet, it seems our Prif Weinidog, Baroness Morgan, has either missed the memo or chosen to ignore the clear will of the people of Wales.
There is a troubling lack of clarity here. Either Prif Weinidog has engaged in official discussions with HM Treasury, or she hasn’t. Which is it? The Crown Estate generates hundreds of millions of pounds annually from exploiting Welsh resources. The people of Wales deserve straight answers, not political evasion.
This feels like another chapter in a long history of Westminster disregard for Welsh interests – a modern-day echo of Tryweryn. If our Prif Weinidog holds no sway with her masters in power at the other end of the M4, it underscores an undeniable truth: full independence is the only viable path for Cymru to control its destiny.
YesCymru is calling for urgent clarity and action, reminding the Welsh Government that transparency and accountability are essential when it comes to protecting the nation’s resources.
