Across Wales, volunteers from YesCymru have been taking direct action to improve their communities, organising a series of litter picks as part of the movement’s #CaruCymru initiative.
Over the weekend of 15-16 February, 16 local YesCymru groups led community clean-ups, collecting bags of rubbish and recyclable materials while making a visible difference to public spaces.
This campaign was about more than just tidying up - it was about taking responsibility, leading by example, and showing the kind of Wales we want to build. By removing litter from footpaths, streets, and green spaces, volunteers helped to improve public areas, reduce pollution, and protect local wildlife. Many groups worked with local councils to ensure the waste was properly collected and recycled.
A cleaner, healthier Wales is possible - but it takes people stepping up to make it happen. Dylan Phillips, Chair of YesCymru Caerfyrddin (Carmarthen) group, explained:
"This wasn’t just about picking up litter - it was about showing pride in our communities and proving that Wales can do better. We believe an independent Wales should be a cleaner, greener country where people take ownership of their environment and their future."
Rob Hughes, a YesCymru director, highlighted the wider impact of the campaign:
"With groups across Wales taking part, this event sends a powerful message. When people come together to take action, even on something as simple as litter picking, we demonstrate the strength of our communities and our determination to shape a better Wales. Independence isn’t just about politics—it’s about people having the power to change their country for the better."
YesCymru believes in taking action, not waiting for permission. This campaign is just one example of how people across Wales can make a real difference when they take the future into their own hands.
