Who are we and what do we do?

Stand Up For Wales was set up in 2017 by a small crew, with the aim of hosting comedy events, initially in the Swansea area, to further promote the Welsh independence cause.

We are a non-profit organisation. All monies from the nights are re-invested into future events.

Our monthly English-language comedy event is held on the third Thursday of every month at The Hefty Chest Pirate Bar in the centre of Swansea. Our Welsh-language brand, Sefyll Lan Dros Gymru, was launched in 2018, and we are currently working on developing it further.

Since our launch, we have taken comedy to IndyFest and Buffalo Bar in Cardiff, Haf YesPreseli and the launch of the Merthyr Tydfil branch of YesCymru.

We aim to bring our events to all parts of Wales, and are able to offer comedy for all occasions.

We have a substantial contact base within the south Wales comedy scene and beyond.

What do we offer?

We are able to offer a complete comedy experience for your branch or event. We’ll book the acts and bring our own PA system (available for a nominal fee). All we ask is that you suggest the venue and help provide us with an audience. We’ll actively and enthusiastically promote your night via posters and our social media pages.

We’ll tailor the event to suit your needs.

Our standard nights last around 90 minutes, not including intervals (plenty of time to top up your glasses etc).
If you are looking to book a comedy slot as part of a wider event, i.e. festival, we would recommend a one-hour window of four 10-minute slots.

We aim to make no profit whatsoever from your night. We would occasionally ask for a contribution towards our travel expenses, depending on the distance of course, and a few pounds into the kitty for the printing of posters.

Comedians’ costs may vary and could either be funded via ticket sales or bucket collection on the night. You tell us what your budget is, and we’ll advise which option is best.

These include Dan Thomas, Steffan Alun, Steffan Evans, Sarah Breese, Beth Jones, Phil Cooper, Ignacio Lopez, Eleri Morgan, Karen Sherrard, Drew Taylor, Chris Chopping, Lorna Prichard… not forgetting a certain Englishman who keeps crossing the Severn Bridge to come back to us – yes, we’re talking about you, Gary Tro!
