Director Elections - Naomi Hughes

Candidate for South Wales East

Over the past year I have been Chair of Yes Cymru Merthyr, one of the most prominent YesCymru branches in the country.

Since I was elected, the branch has been extremely active, including holding stalls on many occasions, holding banners on bridges, campaign nights, social nights, fundraising and being accredited by Yes Cymru.

Furthermore I have been central in establishing the south east regional group and I chair meetings often. We have developed a network of groups and individuals who come together regularly to promote independence for south Wales and promote areas where there is no Yes Cymru group, with the aim of establishing new groups.

I am also passionate about the Welsh language and I am very active in helping to promote the Welsh language in the village of Beddllwynog, where I live.

Personally I am a design teacher and designer with my own company that exports products worldwide, so I have an understanding and experience of running a business. This includes responsibility for marketing, advertising, and sales as well as the design itself. I would like to offer my experience in these areas to help our organization to promote independence for Wales, persuading and convincing others to buy into a better future for the people of Wales.

And that is why I am so passionate about Welsh independence. As a woman of mixed heritage I have found Yes Cymru to be an open, inclusive and welcoming organization and I want to spread this message across the country. Also as a mother and stepmother I want to see a Wales in the future that offers opportunities for our young people in a tolerant and fair country.
