This exhibition is inviting artists and creatives to explore what nation building and self-determination means for them.
It will explore how the artist feels we can make and remake Wales, Cymru, and develop and express new ideas, provide a platform for artistic expression to problem-solving and in addition turn new, innovative and imaginative ideas into reality for a better Cymru.
Organised by YesCymru Penybont ar Ogwr (Bridgend), entries will be judged by renowned professional artists Iwan Bala, Bethan Ash and Claire Hiett and if selected will be displayed at the Queen Street Art Gallery in Neath as part of an exhibition that will run from Saturday 2nd November - Saturday 30th November. The final winner will get their own solo exhibition at Studio 40 in Neath in 2025.
Competition overview
The Art of Independence exhibition is an 'open submission' (anyone can enter) competition that will be judged by professionals from a broad range of disciplines. A fee of £10 is charged per artwork (£5 for students), which are submitted as digital image(s) in conjunction with an entry form. Entries will be reviewed by the judges, who will select in the region of 40 – 80 pieces for the exhibition. Works selected will need to be delivered to Queen Street Art Gallery in Neath for exhibition by Saturday 2nd November. The judges will also choose the final prize winners.

Closing date for images and entry forms: Monday 16th September 2024 - Owain Glyndŵr Day.
Exhibition Opens: Saturday 2 November 2024.
Exhibition ends: Saturday 30th November 2024.
